HELP FUND OUR LEGAL FIGHT!

Trudeau's Elections Commissioner convicted us! Elections Canada just fined Ezra Levant $3,000 for writing a book comparing Justin Trudeau to Tony Soprano!

In 2019 I published my best-selling book, The Libranos: What the Media Won’t Tell You about Justin Trudeau’s Corruption.

Trudeau is still prosecuting me for that book. He's spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and deploying half a dozen police, lawyers and bureaucrats to silence me. They claim that my book was illegal, that I had to register with the government, because it criticized Trudeau by name during an election year.

They are really, really mad at the cover of the book — they said the cover picture was mean to Trudeau. I’m not even kidding, they said that. You might recall that in 2020, two 30-year veterans of the RCMP interrogated me about the book for an hour. I secretly recorded that interrogation, because I knew that no-one would believe me without it. Police interrogating an author, in Canada? Unthinkable.

Well, it happened. And — no surprise — they convicted me, fining me $3,000. Then in 2021, they convicted me again!

These convictions and fines came as a surprise to me. The trial was done in secret. I was not invited to the trial, I did not know about it, I was not allowed to attend or to send a lawyer.

Just so you know, this is all illegal. The Elections Act says books and the promotion of books — that means ads selling the book — are exempt from election censorship.

Here’s section 2:

And of course the Charter of Rights guarantees my freedom of speech and the press. So this is just Trudeau attacking anyone who embarrasses him.

I’m not going to pay the $3,000 in fines. I’m sorry, I’m just not.

I do not accept a punishment fine for writing a book criticizing Justin Trudeau.

What do you think I should do? Should I pay these fines? That would be the financially smart thing to do. Because appealing this censorship fines will surely cost at least $30,000. Why would I spend ten times as much to fight the fines? Because: freedom. That’s why.

So, our lawyers filed a seven-page appeal to the original fine, and now they've appealed this fine too.

You can read all of our legal correspondence here. And this is the most recent letter!

If Trudeau thinks I’m going to shut up about him, he’s dead wrong. It is my goal not only to overturn this conviction, but to have a real judge in a real court remind Trudeau that he’s not a dictator in Communist China — he’s just a politician in a country where freedom of speech is the law, not a partisan favour he can give or take away from people based on their allegiance to him.

There were 24 books published about Trudeau in the 2019 election. Mine was the only one that criticized Trudeau. And mine is the only one that was investigated, prosecuted — and now convicted and punished.

I’m going to appeal these illegal convictions. And I’m going to help other journalists and authors, even though most of them these days are fine with censoring conservatives and cancel culture. I’m going to challenge the constitutionality of this entire law, so that no other Canadian will ever be interrogated by police and convicted in a secret trial and fined $3,000 again, for criticizing a politician.

If you can chip in a few dollars to help us fight the censorship and cover our legal costs we would appreciate it.

We are the canary in the coal mine. If we don’t fight back now, you could be next.

Please help us crowdfund our legal appeal and constitutional challenge! Thank you.
